Why isn't the Mashpee River dredged yet?

That is a long story.

We have been working on that problem for over 20 years, and it boils down to funding and finding a way to dispose of the muck (fines) that is acceptable to the myriad of permitting agencies.

Upland disposal has been unacceptable due to cost and the lack of a suitable site near the River for disposal.

We are continuously investigating innovative as well as beneficial ways of disposing of the material in the embayment itself. For more details, see "'What will it take to dredge the Mashpee River?"
