The Mashpee Wildlife Refuge, established in 1995 and encompassing 5,871 acres in the towns of Mashpee and Falmouth, is the second largest, accessible open space on Cape Cod; the first being Cape Cod National Seashore. It encompasses two watersheds and contains unique and rare habitats and associated wildlife: Pine Barrens and Atlantic White Cedar Swamps. Our Refuge is unique within the National Wildlife Refuge system and provides THE model for how future National Wildlife Refuges will be created and managed.

The Friends of Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge Organization (FMNWR), also established in 1995, is an 501(C)(3)  nonprofit organization supporting the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge and the Refuge Partners through fundraising, advocacy, education, and stewardship projects.
