Recycling

Due to changes in worldwide markets, the cost of single stream recycling is no longer economically viable for the Town.  Transfer Station users must separate their recyclables as follows:

Recyclable Materials

Massachusetts Law bans disposal of recyclable materials with household trash.  Residents may purchase recycling bins for $5.00 at:

The following materials are also accepted for recycling at the Transfer Station in addition to the above recycling (in the appropriate location: click here for map):

  • Anti Freeze
    Green Only   --Fee Required--
  • Appliances (White Goods)
    Stoves, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners, refrigerators (doors removed). Fee Required
  • Automotive Batteries
  • Rechargeable Batteries
    NiCd, Small Pb, Li-ion, and NiMH.  (Alkaline batteries are not hazardous and may be disposed of with trash)
  • Books
    Clean and dry paperback or hardcover.
  • Electronics
    Anything with a cord.  --Fee Required--
  • Mattresses/Box Springs
    --Fee Required--
  • Mercury Products
    Medical thermometers, thermostats, and switches; fluorescent light bulbs
  • Mixed Rigid Plastic
    Buckets/pails, milk crates, laundry baskets, lawn furniture, flower pots (no dirt), toys, coolers, barrels.  Please clean as necessary.
  • Oil Filters and Used Oil
  • Propane Tanks

  • Scrap Metal
    Separate metal from other materials (plastic, wood, etc.)
  • Textiles
    Clean and dry clothing, linens, shoes, stuffed animals, pillows, and similar (ripped/ torn, missing buttons, missing pair, etc. okay)
  • Tires

  • Yard Waste
    Leaves and grass clippings.
  • Brush
    6" or less; limit 2 barrels.

  • Place mercury products in Universal Waste Shed
  • Home composting bins for yard waste may be purchased at the DPW for $25.00 (Mashpee residents).  Click here to learn more about home composting and composting bins.
  • Excess or larger diameter brush is Not Accepted.  Brush may be brought directly to the following location:
