Beach Advisories/Closures - Updated 11/7/2023

Notice will be updated across the Mashpee website when an advisory/closure is posted, and again when it is lifted.

September 7, 2023 - a visible scum layer on Ashumet Pond and cell counts above the DPH threshold of 70,000 cells/ml was confirmed by the Department of Natural Resources.  The following advisory remains in effect:

  • Do not swim
  • Do not swallow water
  • Keep pets away from water
  • Rinse off after contact with water
**November 7, 2023 - The Advisory from October 4, 2023 for Santuit Pond has been LIFTED**
October 4, 2023 - a visible scum layer on Santuit Pond was confirmed by the Department of Natural Resources.  
 
**July 27, 2023 - The Advisory from June 21, 2023 for Santuit Pond has been LIFTED**

June 21, 2023 - a visible scum layer on Santuit Pond was reported to the Department of Natural Resources.  Upon inspection, the scum layer present was confirmed to contain cyanobacteria. 

**July 7, 2023 - The Advisory from June 11, 2023 for Mashpee-Wakeby Ponds has been LIFTED**
June 11, 2023 - a visible scum layer on Mashpee-Wakeby Ponds was reported to the Department of Natural Resources.  Upon inspection, the scum layer present was confirmed to contain cyanobacteria species Dolichospermum coiled sp.
