Notice #1 – April 9, 2024 Popponesset Approach Channel - Dredging Update

The dredging of the Popponesset Approach Channel was completed on March 28th. The areas that needed to be dredged were significantly reduced this spring as the channel was dredged in October. Most of the dredging took place in the northern section of the channel (see below).

The controlled depth of the channel remains at 5’ at MLW (mean low water), but shoals shift and shallower depths may be found throughout the channel limits.

Once completed, a Post-Dredge survey plot will be made available and distributed as an aid to mariners navigating this channel.

Please note, there is one section of approximately 1,200’ of dredge pipe that is anchored, submerged, and marked with yellow floats throughout its length.

Boaters are advised to exercise caution when navigating in this area where the pipe is located.
