Update on the Town Seal Committee

Press Release - Mashpee Town Seal Committee - March 12, 2021

The Town Seal Committee was established by the Board of Selectmen following the May 2019 Town Meeting upon successful petition to redesign the Mashpee Town Seal. Today’s Town Seal is not reflective of Mashpee’s history and is seen as a symbol reflective of the genocide of Native People.

Through a community-wide process including research and dialogue, we will reflect on our town’s past, present, and future. The Committee seeks input from residents to identify design priorities for the Town Seal from an array of positive characteristics and attributes including, but not limited to Mashpee’s diversity and culture, notable people, sense of community, history and landmarks, economy, natural resources, and wildlife.

Please share your opinions and play a role in guiding this historic process.  The survey is confidential, and will be available to complete online by visiting the Town of Mashpee’s website beginning on Monday, March 15, 2021. It will remain active for a thirty day period, ending April 15, 2021. In addition, links to the survey will be shared electronically via communications and newsletters from town departments.  Print copies of the survey will be distributed via contactless service points at the Mashpee Library (Event Room pick up area), and can be printed upon request by calling the Town Manager’s office at 508-539-1401.

Pursuant to the redesign process the Town Seal Committee seeks to engage with a qualified graphic designer to assist with the design and development of an updated Town Seal that recognizes and honors the Town’s history, its culture, and that which makes Mashpee unique. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the Town Manager’s office to receive details for submitting a scope of work proposal by emailing bids@mashpeema.gov  or calling the Town Manager’s office at 508-539-1401.
