How does the water quality assessment effort fit in with the Waterways Commission?

The Waterways Commission is not directly responsible for improving the quality of our Mashpee waters, but we do support the Town's efforts to curb the influx of nutrients that are causing the water quality problems. Several members of the Waterways Commission are part of the volunteer group that manages/coordinates the sampling effort that gathers water samples on behalf of the Estuaries Project and the developing Wastewater Management Planning project. The Water Quality testing program is coordinated with The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, The Town and the SMAST testing team. This program has been ongoing for over 15 years and will continue indefinitely as the Town Wastewater Treatment planning effort moves forward.
