Anticipated Costs

Property owners can expect to incur two separate costs from their required connection to Mashpee's sewer service:  1.) The first cost is the lateral connection to the sewer main; and 2.) the abandonment of the property's septic system per Board of Health regulations.  Only licensed utility installers can complete the sewer connection and they should be contacted at the appropriate time to receive cost estimates.  Property owners should expect some variability in cost estimates received from licensed utility installers because each property is different.  

At the present time, outside of personal financing, there are several options available to property owners to assist with sewer service connection costs. The Town encourages you to explore these financing options as soon as possible to prepare yourself.  Links to these financing options are provided in the table below.

Barnstable County Community Septic Management Loan Program / Cape Cod Aquifund

Financial assistance for septic system replacement, installation of advanced onsite wastewater treatment units, and sewer connections. Contact information and online application available by clicking the link.

State Tax Credit

As of 10/04/2023, Title V (Septic) Tax Credit – triples maximum credit to $18,000, increases percentage of eligible expenses from 40% to 60%; and allows taxpayers to claim up to $4,000 in any year, versus $1,500 in current law.

US Department of Agriculture Single Family Housing Repair Loans and Grants
